Swarna Prashan
Suvarnaprashan is an Ayurvedic formulation, presented as a lehyam (a preparation intended for licking), specifically designed for children from birth up to 16 years of age. Its composition includes medicated ghrita, honey, and swarna bhasma (incinerated gold).
The commencement of Suvarnaprashan is traditionally recommended on the auspicious day of Pushya Nakshatra. It can be done in 2 ways :
- Daily administration (daily dose of Suvarnaprashana) may continue for a period of 6 to 9 months, or
- Once a month on the day of Pushya Nakshtra.
It shall be started after the advice of a qualified Ayurvedic physician (Vaidya) or a doctor. This practice is recognized as one of the sixteen major Sanskaras (sacraments) in traditional Hindu culture, akin to Namkarana (naming ceremony) and Annaprashana (first feeding of solid food), underscoring its vital role in a child's developmental journey.
